Photojournalist, Kate Holt comes to Newburgh Priory.

I'm so excited to be organising a talk given by photojournalist, Kate Holt, held within the beautiful stately home, Newburgh Priory in North Yorkshire on Thursday 27th April.

I was so disappointed to have missed Kate's recent talk, 'The Legacy of the British Involvement in Afghanistan' which was held at the Army & Navy Club on behalf of the National Army Museum. So I asked Kate if she would considering bringing the talk north; to my delight the answer was yes!

Kate will share her experiences working as a photojournalist in Afghanistan in the summer of 2010. Kate was the only UK photographer to be allowed access to the specialist team working to locate deadly devices. During the talk, Kate will show her photographs from the last eight years covering the war.

Kate is a freelance photojournalist, regular Guardian contributor and has been nominated twice for the Amnesty Award for Humanitarian Reporting.

The venue: Newburgh Priory a magnificent family home, steeped in history, located on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Coxwold (voted as one of the 10 best villages in the UK in 2008), North Yorkshire. Originally an Augustinian priory, it was founded in 1145 and became a family home following the dissolution of the priory in 1538. The talk will be held in the drawing room followed by a drinks reception in the dining room; an opportune moment to see some of the exquisite architecture and interiors of Newburgh Priory.

I am really looking forward to welcoming Kate to Newburgh Priory and listening to her talk about the realities of the Afghanistan conflict and long term impact on the landscape and people.
