Not just a pretty face...
When it comes to exhibitions, Lotte Inch Gallery is the go to gallery. Thoughtfully curated by Lotte (Inch) with superb attention to detail, it is always a pleasure to visit; discovering new artists, designers and makers on a carousel of exhibitions throughout the year. Lotte comes from a background in Art History and Heritage having worked for The National Trust, Scampston Hall and Gardens and The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery at The University of Leeds, amongst others
The gallery space is housed within a Medieval timber framed building which leans against the 13th century walls of St Mary's Abbey conveniently located in the city centre of York and less than a two minute walk from the York Art Gallery.
The forthcoming exhibition, Pop Art & Pots will showcase ceramics by selected members of the Northern Potters Association alongside prints from Pop Art superstars including Sir Peter Blake and Eduardo Paolozzi; sure to be a visual treat, pitching Pop Art and Craft on an even playing field.
Following Pop Art & Pots comes DISH, an exciting exhibition of ceramics co-curated by Michelin Star chef Tom Kerridge from Friday 10th March - Saturday 6th May.
Tom Kerridge was heralded by Ceramic Review with 'quietly becoming part of a renaissance in ceramics'. Rightly so, for Tom is, it seems, one of the first in his industry to really champion the use of original, handmade ceramic tableware to showcase his food. Tom handpicks and collaborates with artist-makers from across the UK in an attempt both to create a deeper connection with the food that he has prepared, and to promote the skill and expertise of these makers.
Tom and Lotte have selected an eclectic group of ceramicists to exhibit their decorative and functional pieces, that in turn will work to elevate the simple dish to something much more than a surface. The exhibition will include plates, dishes, chargers, servers, platters and more. Exhibiting artists include: Marv Kitshaw & Diane Nicholson, the making duo behind Muddy Fingers Pottery (their clients include Tom Kerridge, Jason Atherton and Burberry), Reiko Kaneko, Hannah Stanniforth, Isabel Denyer, Gill Thompson, Tamsin Arrowsmith-Brown and Sue Paraskeva, amongst others.
The month of May brings us Clive Hicks-Jenkins & Sarah Cathy Raphael-Barme and later on in the summer, Lotte will host St Judes at Lotte Inch Gallery which will include work by Mark Herald, Emily Sutton, Angie Lewin and more.
Can't wait!
